About Us
The Derwent Valley Railway is a not-for-profit organisation based at New Norfolk 40mins north-west of Hobart in Tasmania's Derwent valley and is one of Australia's most scenic railway lines which we endeavour to develop into one of the worlds premiere tourist railways.
Our aim is to run regular passenger trains, with a tourism emphasis, further west to popular tourist destinations such as Plenty, National Park, and Maydena and also to bring aid prosperity to the Derwent valley through increased visitor numbers.
We've operated successful tourist passenger trains to these locations in the past, as well as occasional trips to places such as Ross and Parattah in the midlands of central Tasmania.
We own 4 Steam engines, 4 Diesel-electric locomotives, 2 Diesel mechanical shunters and 1 Diesel-hydraulic.

Three of our passenger carriages were formerly utilised primarily on the "Tasman Limited" service, and are articulated in the centre giving them a capacity of 76 passengers each including a central Cafeteria/Bar. Our other two carriages are from the Emu Bay Railway Co. and were used extensively on the "West-coaster" service.
Membership is open to all and we have members from various countries around the world. Anyone keen to lend a hand is most welcome regardless of any prior skills and/or experience. Applications can be sought by emailing us at dvr@dvr.org.au
